Great Sledding Over Winter Break

We have recently concluded our Winter School Break activities.  Fortunately there was still a little bit of snow left for sledding!  It was a hectic and noisy week, but the kids had a lot of fun.  It's always rewarding to see how some of the more behaviorally challenging kids respond to the firm guidance and gentle coaching of the staff.

A recent summit on children's mental health described "the 20/20 problem: 20% of U.S. children are in need of mental health services and only 20% of those children receive services."  Among other findings, the summit reiterated that skills and competencies that improve developmental outcomes can be taught to children, parents, and caregivers.  That's a big part of what we do here, and your support helps us to continue doing it.

Families First Receives Stewart's Foundation Grant.

Families First has been awarded a grant of $2500 from the Stewart's Foundation.  The grant will be used to help offset costs for our four day summer camp for youth participants.

Families First has provided this summer camp experience to hundreds of children since the camp was initiated in 2002.  The grant from the Stewart's Foundation will go towards the rental fee for the campground, as has previous annual grants from Stewart's.

The grant is part of the Stewart's Holiday Gift Matching program, which runs from Thanksgiving to Christmas each year in participating shops.  Because the community is such an integral partner in the success of this matching program, we’d like to thank all those community members who donated at our local Stewart's Shops.
